Ideals of DEC
Professional Practice
It is important to the Early Childhood Field because it tells me that I need to always be honest, and truthful. I should always be professional when working and talking with children and families. I should build relationships with the children and families and I should always remember that every child is an individual and should be use individual appropriate assessment tools.
Ideals of NAEYC
Ethical Responsibilities to Colleagues
This is important to the field of Early Childhood because it makes me realize that sharing information and having respect for my colleagues is essential to my profession. I believe that the way you treat your colleagues reflects the way you treat children.
Ethical Responsibilities to Families
This is important because when I show respect and support to the child's family, then I am showing respect and support to the child. As an Early Childhood provider I am always talking to parents and listening to what they have to say. Sometimes I have to give advice and do the best I can to help them.

My Favorite Children's Book
"We All Sing with the Same Voice"
Authors: J. Phillip Miller & Sheppard M. Greene
Illustrator: Paul Meisel
This is a multicultural sing-a-long book. It has become my favorite children's book because it shows children that we are all the same no matter where we come from. I love the song and when I play it for my class or other classrooms the children fall in love with the book and the song.

Quote about Children
We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.

The Year that Changed My Life
The year that changed my life was in August 2002. I had been teaching in the early childhood field for two years. The school year had just started and I had my first special needs class, 12 boys and no girls. It was a wonderful experience and the children taught me more than I could have ever imagined. This was the school year that made me realize how important being a teacher can be and that I wanted to be in educational field and help children for the rest of my life.
About Me
My name is Emily Elias and I have been a pre-school teacher for 12 years. I live in Tampa, Florida and I have no children and I am single. After graduation I would like to teach at a college or university.
